I was out with a friend last night, and he made the assertion that Capitalist Fuck Up The Environment ™. That’s a pretty standard argument these days, and I didn’t say anything. My thought is that it’s a big crazy world, and environmental science isn’t yet up to the task of explaining it all. Seems the BBC agrees, with more here.
While 98% of the earth’s heat comes from the sun, temperatures have cooled while CO2 emissions have risen. WTF. The article goes into depth about sun and ocean cycles, but mostly it’s a big guess.
So when we’re designing policy, how should we treat a huge unknown like the environmental impacts? I don’t know, but I object to people who call it “climate change”. The climate is always changing, it’s a dynamic system, not an equilibrium.
Keeping in mind that the earth’s warming comes 98% from the sun.
Remember when I got my ass kicked reeaaaaaaaaaaaal bad that new years eve? They really gave me the business. I have no idea who those freelance rufians were that lent me their services free of charge. Regardless, my face was covered in bruises.
It would have been if you looked at face and said, “I’m pretty sure that looks like an allergic reaction. You should really be careful about what you eat…”
To specify that Capitalists Fuck Up The Environment ™, they do…when it’s free and they don’t care about what they’re doing and no one will find out. If those criteria aren’t met, then their business will suffer. After all, capitalism is just people doing what they freely think they should do in order to create wealth however they choose to define it.
I think the environmental record of large scale socialism needs a mention.
They do. But as Don Boudreaux shows, there’s lots that development has done to clean the environment as well. That benefit is ignored.
